Xenical (orlistat) is often recommended for the treatment of obesity, especially if the patient has too much weight and is not going to benefit from simply dieting and exercising. This drug is supposed to be combined with a healthier diet. You will need to follow all the recommendations of your health care provider and take Xenical regularly to benefit from the treatment. Tell your health care provider if you have any factors that may affect the dose of Xenical you are prescribed – such as some medical conditions and the drugs you are taking. The following medications must be reported: medications for thyroid, other weight loss medications, medications for diabetes, anticoagulants, and drugs to control blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you have eating disorder, diabetes, kidney stones, pancreatitis, thyroid disease, gallbladder disease, or any other health problems of the kind. The following side effect are sometimes experienced: increased number of bowel movements, headache, loose stools, oily spotting, urgent need to have a bowel movement, gas with oily spotting, stomach pain, oily or fatty stools, irregular menstrual periods, and in rare cases – anxiety.
